The Importance of Setting New Year’s Resolutions

The beginning of a new year is a fantastic moment to reflect on the past and consider the future. Setting New Year’s resolutions is a powerful tradition that can aid in personal growth and development. It enables you to create a roadmap for the year, providing guidance towards a more purposeful and fulfilling high school experience and beyond.

Setting specific goals for each subject and cultivating effective study habits can improve academic success. Balancing school, extracurricular activities and personal life is essential and can be achieved through time management. Resolutions can also contribute to a healthier and more balanced lifestyle, personal enrichment, and creative expression. Developing personal and social responsibility through volunteer work and financial knowledge are other valuable resolutions.

The beauty of resolutions lies not only in their creation but in the commitment to their realization. Remember to embrace the process, celebrate small victories, and be adaptable. The resolutions you set now have the power to shape your high school experience and lay the foundation for a promising future.

May this year be filled with achievement, joy, and self-discovery!

January’s National Thank You month

In addition to new year’s resolutions and fresh beginnings, January is the national Thank you month.  Let gratitude warm our hearts this January as we reflect on the blessings around us and express our appreciation for the people, situations, and opportunities in our lives. Gratitude has a remarkable power to uplift the human spirit and strengthen connections to those important people in our lives.  This month encourages us to pause, reflect, and express our heartfelt thanks.  A simple, “thank you” can brighten someone’s day and create a ripple effect.  Consider writing a thank you note to those important people in your life.  The more you put into your written thanks, be it text, email, or handwritten note, the more transformative it will be to your recipient and yourself.  Gratitude and its expression have the power to transform lives and communities.  This month, let gratitude be your companion as you extend a heartfelt thank you to friends and family who support you, mentors who guide you, and anyone else that you are thankful for.

Scholarships for Grades? Grades start over in January!

Just a reminder that your grades start fresh this semester. For all students looking to improve their GPA, now is a great time to focus on your goals for your grades.

Definitions:
GPA-Grade point average. This number takes all of your classes and gives you points for each grade you get.

A=4 points

B=3 points

C=2 points

D=1 point

F=0 points

This number is then divided by all of the classes you’ve taken. A 4.0 GPA is a perfect score with all A’s. You can see your GPA on your transcript.

Transcript-A transcript is just a school record of all of your classes and will calculate your GPA. This document is used when you are applying for colleges and for some jobs. Some car insurance companies also use it to give you a discount for good grades! You can ask your school counselor or school front office for a copy of your transcript.

How can my GPA help me earn scholarships?

Here are some examples of how much money you can get from your GPA:

NAU: 3.75 GPA and above is worth $11,500 per year!

UofA: 4.0 GPA is worth $12,500 per year! 3.5 GPA is worth $5,000 per year!

Remember! The higher your grades, the higher your GPA. And a higher GPA can lead to more opportunities for college admission and scholarships.
